It is very unlikely that it is a fake. "Made in Germany" or simply "Germany" was required by the German "Merchandising Marks Act of 1887" on all products made for export from 1887 on. It is only worthwhile for someone to fake an item if it is very valuable. When this boot was made a 1/2 liter beer stein with a lid could be purchased for about DM 1.50 or about $.38. That's 38 cents. The historismus period in Germany (1870s) produced steins in imitation of earlier pieces, but they were not made to deceive and are easily distiguishable.
