I recognize the top band of relief (keg w/date, etc) as the same as on a stein I have by Matthias Girmscheid. Mine is dated 1900. Since yours says 1904, I don't think the date was part of the mold. I think the date is accurate and was hand-engraved when the stein was manufactured. Oh, how do I know Girmscheid? Mine has a Girmscheid mark on the bottom. This doesn't guarantee yours is a Girmscheid, but it's a good guess. The mold, or portions of the mold could have passed hands to another manufacturer. I've seen this portion of the mold also with the initials "AD" (A. Decker), but mine doesn't have the initials.
