In an effort to shore up the failing German stein maker S.P. Gerz (a major supplier), in 1998 Anheuser-Busch began marketing 24 off-the-shelf Gerz steins as the "Gerz Old World Gallery". Among those 24 pieces was a wooden boxed, limited edition (5000) Creussen Apostle stein reproduction. My recollection is that the retail price at the time was around $600. These steins were not made for Anheuser-Busch, but were simply marketed by A-B, and could also be obtained from other sources. In any event, the rescue attempt proved to be too little too late and Gerz folded its tent in 1999, effectively eliminating Germany as a signigicant source of A-B steins.
