Hi Cathi, The Weimar Republic was after WWI not before and it was still Germany. It came about as a result of WWI after the Kaiser abdicated. The word "Germany" on the stein, or any German product made for export, was required by German law after 1887. It could say "Germany" or "Made in Germany."
