Ron, The last mint copy of this stein that sold at auction went for $163 in the October 2005 Kirsner offering (Lot #7). So as you can see, the Library's suggested range errs on the generous side, at least relative to that particular sale. A couple of other copies with hairlines have also sold recently, both for under $200. The range is admitedly somewhat below that of other comparable Warth pieces and can probably be explained by the fact that there is a far more rare (and therefore desireable) version of the same stein with a blue background. A copy of that one recently sold for $603. Additionally, the brown version was also produced in a 1-liter size and, of course, larger is generally better in the eyes of collectors. Given two more desireable versions of the same design, it's not all that surprising that the ½-liter brown version comes up a little short in the marketplace. By the way, for questions of this type, Library members are always free to contact me directly via email (info@beerstein.net). - Frank
