Hi. I've recently acquired a Siegburg-type stein and I'm trying to put together some information because I know little about these. I've requested some info from the SCI Library and it's on it's way, but I wouldn't mind some opinions from anyone knowledgeable. The stein is a 3-panel stein. One or two panels may be "3 vices" per The Beer Stein Book, but the third panel is Martin Luther. Date on the stein in more than one panel is 1577. Could my stein be that old? (It's crude -- really crude!) Siegburg was a Catholic state. Luther was Protestant Reformer & died around 1546. The "Book of Concord" was passed in 1580 (A statement on the Lutheran theology) and most German states declared either protestant (Lutheran or Calvin-ic) or catholic at that time and many people migrated to a state of their religious persecution. Sometimes when a ruler changed, the state persecution changed which created more migration. I found something that said the potters of Siegburg migrated to Hoehr. Many non-catholics moved to Grenzau/Grenzhausen. Ironic that Luther (protestant) would be on a Siegburg (catholic) stein. I'm just getting started and haven't translated the stein wording yet. I welcome any comments? I have a couple of pictures I can email to anyone of curiosity. Please specify highest resolution (about 2M-byte total) or not-quite-as-high resolution (about 0.9Meg). Thanks. -Jody (wyseguy-at-att-dot-net) PS. I'm not intending to make this a religious discussion except that to point out the seeming contradiction.
