This is a student inscription, and the scene is probably students drinking, not soldiers. K. Kunstler, who has previously served the student society as Fuchs Master (leader/manager of the initiates) and current second officer (xx) presented this stein to his cherished friend (s/l) L. F. A. Knocke "zum Freundliche Errinerung" (in friendly remembrance) of Winter Semester (W.S.) of 1895-96. The first expression is actually "Zum Wohlsein", the second is "Wohl Bekomms", both meaning roughly "To your health." At face value, the stein would have most likely been manufactured in 1895 or 1896, and decorated at the time it was given (1896). Judging value would require a photo.
