In addition to Chris' info you may likr to know that Karl Merkelbach was a small independent family potter called an Eulerei after the owl which was the symbol of the potters guilds. There were/are many Eulerei in the Hohr-Grenzhausen area. Steins were/are only a small part of their business which wasn't very large in the first place so the steins are somewhat scarce, even rare. Unfortunately rarity has little to do with stein values.
