You have a very desirable and valuable Mettlach. It's actually 6.8L and was executed by Fritz Quidenus, one of the known and highly sought-after Mettlach artists. Having the original lid with the original finial is extremely important and adds significantly to value, which at a well advertised auction, could fetch $5,500 or more. It seems this crook certainly knew what to steal and you should be lucky it made it's way to you. If you want to sell, try Ron Fox Auctions which has a link on this site. His commissions are less than Gary Kirsner Auction or The Stein Auction Company (also both links on this site), two other reputable firms, and with a stein of this value, this lower commission rate could equal a couple of hundred bucks. Good luck, you have a true treasure.
