I absolutely agree. Somebody very easily could have faked this. With the little bit of searching I have done, I could have faked this. I'm educating myself about this lid. I spent all night researching Himmler and his beliefs. Himmler believed he was the reincarnation of Saxon King Heinrich the 1st. Both Hitler and Himmler were obsessed with the Hofburg spear (or Spear of Destiny. After finding paintings, sculptures, and writings on this, I have no doubt that the painting on the inlay is of Constantine the Great. He is said to be the first to posses the "Spear of Destiny" that they coveted so much. Constantine is always pictured on his massive white horse. The snake symbol is significant because of the monastery that was overrun with snakes. That is when Constantine imported hundreds and hundreds of cats to battle this. I can't find anything on the two birds with the rings in their mouths. This is more than a coincidence if you ask me. I understand that most people who have steins that come through here have delusions of grandeur, but until a can get this to the right person and they can hold it in their hand I'm not going to give up. I was hoping someone would help me find the right person who could give this the attention that my instincts tell me it deserves. I will be willing to accept the fact that is is bunk after someone explains why and thy don't use Wikipedia for info. I absolutely thank all of you for your new info. I now know the lid maker as EW Regensburg (thank you Chris), and that is GREAT! Bits of info like that make this exiting. I do believe this will just have to wait until I can drive it to the proper hands. Thank you all and God bless.
