Cindy, As Jordan pointed out, the 1L is the capacity mark (one liter or about 2.5 beers for us). I presume you saw your stein in the Character Stein catalog, possibly under Stoneware Munich Child. If you can provide more information on the pages you looked at we can pin it down better. That site is not complete, so we can't get the description it says is available. J Reinemann was a seller of steins that he bought from various manufacturers. If you click on manufacturers in the Character Stein site, you will get information on that firm. I'm a little confused when you say it is also listed under Monks. Is it a Nun or is it the Munich Child. they should be different, so a photo would help us idenify it. The two towers are on the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), a prominent landmark in Munich. With seven posts I think you are pretty well hooked by now. Please proceed to the SCI Home Page and click on Subscribe/Renew and we can complete the process of making you an official member of SCI. I think you will enjoy reading about various steins and maybe even joining a chapter near you or attending a convention. You will be pleasantly surprised at the vast number of antique steins available and how good the workmanship is compared to the ordinary souvenir steins most people think of when German steins are mentioned. I know I was surprised at the quantiy and quality that was available in the U.S. when I first started collecting steins. Back then there wasn't an Internet and there wasn't much available in printed information. SCI was just getting started. BTW, I started young so I am not really that old! Just refer to me as a long-time member rather than an old member of SCI. Ron
