Craig, Hope you see this before you visit the woman you bought the lid from. I don't know the date you bought it, but she must be in her 80s by now. Thus, you have to question how good her memory is going back 67 years. Anyway, I found a site that has some Himmler items, including two other beer steins, see http://www.germaniainternational.com/welcome.html It has a section for Third Reich items and another section in that for Himmler. It claims that Himmler abandoned his Tegernsee House in 1945 and that neighbors fearing it would be looted for war booty cleaned it out to keep for the Himmler family. Gary Kirsner's books on German Military Steins does have a section of fake Third Reich steins being marketed. You will have a difficult task proving it is real. I am sure you will find a lot of people offering advice one way or the other, but I doubt any of them will be able offer proof to back up their opinion. Having said that, I did some checking and the runes on the lid do appear to be some of those used by the SS. I also found another site that said the double lightning bolts were not used by the SS until 1933 for what it is worth. Again, this only proves that someone new what they were doing in 1933 or after the WWII. I also think you are on the right track on the figure on the lid. I could not find a place that said Constantine owned The Spear of Destiny (or Longinus), which is the spear used to pierce Christ. Constantines' lance was said to have a nail from the cross of crucifixion and was used by The Holy Roman Emporors. I don't know how accurate any of these sites might be, but it does make an interesting story. Ron
