Karen, The scene on the second mug is Farewell. This is the information from The Beer Stein Library: “Behüt dich Gott, es wär so schön gewesen, behüt dich Gott, es hat nicht sollen sein.” (body) (May God watch over you, it would have been so nice, may God watch over you, it was not meant to be.) Scene and text taken from a poem (Der Trompeter von Säckingen) written in 1885 by J. Viktor von Scheffel, which tells the story of a love affair between a trumpeter and a baron’s daughter. Original engraving entitled “Abscheid” (Farewell) done in 1888 by C. Schweninger. I don't think we can pin them down much further. I didn't see a capacity mark, so they were not made for the German market and would not be required in the U.S. Ron
