I don't understand how the paint and pewter on the supposedly 'old' and 'antique' steins can be in such pristine condition. The pewter looks more like polished silver and the paint looks fresh and new - no fading at all. Have they been restored? What does that say about the one I know for a fact is at least 100 years old? The only paint to have lasted the test of time seems to be the shades of green. As for the pewter, it's ornate, but quite dull. There are no marks on the bottom of my 1 liter Bavarian style hunter, other than the 'Germany' imprint. Was mine simply mishandled or did it age badly? Perhaps it was packed away improperly? The relief is quite in tact and there are no chips or cracks - the paint is just faded off. I do know it was displayed in a vaguely lit window in the basement of my husband's grandparent's home. Has this masterpiece been ruined from lack of care? Can anyone enlighten me?
