This is actually the Munich Child, or Münchner Kindl, there is no mistaking it. If you navigate to the Library section of this web site (click above on SCI Home Page, then Library) you can scroll down to an article entitled History of the Munich Child which will give you quite a bit of information about this figure. Note that I have avoided using terms which assign gender to this figure, like Maid or Monk. As stated in the article, the figure derives historically from a settlement of monks, and in its original manifestations it was male. In more recent years depictions have taken on a female aspect, although often with some ambiguity. The German name for this figure is Münchner Kindl, which means Munich Child. Note that both of the words Kindl and Child include both genders.
