Cindy, let's deal with the pewter lid first. Pewter is an alloy, and often, due to both its composition and the environmental conditions where the piece resides it can develop patina/"wear" differently. You can find 18th century pieces that look "new" while 20th century items can have heavy "corrosion"...it depends on the particular piece.
