Merkelbach the likely maker of the unfinished stein? What clues led you to that - for future reference. The handle - right? What would it do to the value of an unfinished piece to have someone paint it now? Is it even collectible in this state? Also - did you see my 1st stein purchase as a new collector? It's hideous and gaudy but I like it. Haven't seen the bottom yet though. The seller told me he bought it from the estate of an elderly gentleman from Germany....so it might have promise. We'll see.
