Cindy, You are still confusing the marks with who was in charge. They are separate issues. Original just means that it is based on the original mold. Molds only last so long so they may have had to make a new one. Also the decorating/painting will vary from the original. West Germany, W Germany or Western Germay will always date it to post-WWII, but Germany could mean either pre- or post-reunification. You are the only person that can decide what you want to collect. Tastes, budgets, preferences and other factors will vary from collector to collector. When you attend meetings or conventions you will be able to talk to other collectors and see and examine a lot of different steins. The sooner you do it before you walk to far into the forest the better off you will be. When buying steins, remember to consider the hidden costs -shipping, insurance, sales tax, buyer's premium in an auction. These costs can be significant for a lower cost item. Ron
