I found this stein in a local thrift store. After some reading and research I think it is an 1886 Hauber & Reuther stein made by S.P. Gerz. My evidence: The capacity mark looks like an S.P. Gerz from late 1886. I know HB was decorating steins from Gerz then. There is a 'Zb' stamp on the heavy pewter lid. This looks somewhat similar to the 'HB ZB' stamp. It has a heavy pewter lid that looks like other lids from the time period. The color scheme looks right for a Westerwald stein of this time period. Cobalt blue, gray, pink type glaze. There is no manufacturers mark on the bottom. There does seem to be a cross shaped firing mark on the bottom of the stein. The handle looks like an SP Gerz. I'm very new at this so I could be very wrong. The pictures are at http://s1177.photobucket.com/albums/x360/craigslistseller2/HB%20stein%20by%20SP%20Gerz/ What do you think? Am I right? Am I wrong?
