Alan, What they are saying is that the inlaid lid is shown in the Mettlach catalog and in The Beer Stein Library with your inlaid lid with a finial. As I stated earlier, the impressed form mark is an older mark, 1852-1873. It may be possible that earlier versions might have been made without a finial. I am personally not aware of any. I don't think you will be able to determine if the lid has been altered or has not been altered from a photo. The photo showing the thumblift is not very clear, but it looks like part of the thumblift could be missing. Do you have a clearer close up of the thumblift? These would be issues a Mettlach collector will be concerned with. Ron
