Rich, I wish I could help you more, but my German is not good enough to understand everything I read. I can see from your photo that the Burschenverein is in Burgweinting, not Ponholz. I can see the word Eichenlaub associated with several Schützenverein, or shooting clubs. Possibly "oak leaves" is some kind of level of achievement, such as "black belt", or an honor. The German and U.S. military use the oak leaf in many of their medals and awards. If you delve deep enough into the Internet you may find an answer, or hopefully someone with a knowledge of German customs will read these posts and give you an answer.
