Thanks Chris--that's kind of where I was going with this as it would have been just DANZIG because most people there still considered themselves in Germany even though it's status changed, or as you said it would be pre-WWI when indeed it was Danzig and no other designation. The crest is only of the shield with the two crosses, no lions on either side and a banner/scroll below with the word DANZIG on it. I would still be interested in knowing during what time they used this capacity mark/when it was "popular", etc.
