Janet, Herr Thewalt got back to me on your stein. Wilhelm Kamp could have been designing about 50 steins per year in the early years. So if he did, then 173 could have been designed in about 1900 which would explain the early mark. The "K" and "WK" were both marks used to identify his designs. Herr Thewalt added that Kamp later designed the 1,5 L stein with the Defregger scene and reassigned the 173 mold number to that design also. The mold 373 is the same scene that appears on your mold 173 and would probably have the mark of Kamp on it as well, although The Beer Stein Library does not state that fact for mold 373. Ron
