Alex, It was possible to order Mettlachs without lids and have one put on by your own pewterer. You also had a choice of lids, so perhaps the same was true for thumblifts. Perkeo would be appropriate for your stein. Steveonsteins.com has four articles on thublifts, perhaps you can spot yours in one of the articles. Ron
