David (UK), Your stein is listed in the Mettlach catalog on The Beer Stein Library. The form is 280 and the design is 678. The text translation on that site is: “Ubi Bene — ibi Hygiene!” (Latin) (Where there is good — there is hygiene!) “Du edles Bier, du Gerstensaft, giebst uns Muth und neue Kraft.” (You noble beer, you juice of barley, gives us courage and new strength.) The title of the stein is “Triumphal Beer Procession.” The estimated value in mint condition is $150 to $225. It doesn't mention the 1891 on the beer keg,but I suspect it isn't significant other than to reflect the year it was brewed or perhaps to reflect the year of the design. There should be a two-digit number below and to the right of the form number to indicate the year of manufacture. Is it close to 1891? If you have a Mercury mark, post a photo to see if we can determine the year of manufacture. Check the lid for markings. I have a 280 stein the was made by R Wagner in Mettlach, Germany. You can see it in one of the old featured steins onthis site. Ron
