Help with before/after WWII German Beer Stein

I live in NH and am going to look at German Beer Steins tomorrow. Supposedly they are authentic, both before and after WWII. Any help in being able to identify if they are real or reproductions would be greatly appreciated. What should I look for....newbie in NH
