I didn't mean to say that the commission rate for an auction house would be higher than fees at eBay. Prices are generally lower on eBay in part because the right buyer might not see a high quality item, and most eBay items sell at a discount from the normal retail value because of the added risk of uncalled damage or repairs, or problems with shipping, or... And setting a reserve on your stein in order to protect yourself seems to scare bidders off. It's a tradeoff, either way.
