John. Were they misrepresented to you as being antiques? These were the first modern era (post-WWII) etched steins issued by Villeroy & Boch's Mettlach factory. There were four in the series (numbered 2901-2904) and were designed by Karin Blume. They were first offered exclusively through American Express for I believe $180. They seem to be going for $55 to $95 on eBay (one sold for only $30). If you are into steins, you should consider joining SCI to help you gain the knowledge you need for collecting and enjoying steins. Ron
