Ron, I guess both of us have a sleeping problem. Anyway, thank you for that information, I looked under the handle but nothing, unless it is covered by the strip if metal that goes around the handle. You also answered the second question as to its age, at least something in this house is older than I am. I don't mind the small chip out of the lid, to me it does not take away the amazing workmanship that went into the making of this stein. Knowing much more about the stein gives it more meaning to me.
