I agree with John that someone has etched in their SS# as an ID in case of theft. Mint condition generally means it is in the same condition, including any pewter inscriptions, it left the factory with ordinary flaws and imperfections and any normal expected wear (such as patina on the pewter). Serious flaws, imperfections and wear should be described. In this case the ID inscription should have been disclosed. It might have impacted the price slightly, but more likely would have caused serious collectors that want steins in absolutely mint condition to not bid on such a stein. Since auctions are bid in increments ($10, $25 or $100 depending on the value being bid), who is to say whether or not such an ID would keep the bid from going to another level? Ron
