I noticed that some people have asked about cleaning the pewter on their steins, so I thought I'd add a discovery about cleaning glass.
My display case, stemware and glass steins get a film on them after sitting a few months on the shelf. No one smokes in the home and the case is almost always closed. Still, I'm sure because of air pollution, the glass needs a good cleaning.
I had noticed some streaking on my glass - after cleaning - and was trying to get rid of it. I came upon a natural streak-free cleaner that works. My neighbor also told me to NOT use cleaning rags that had been washed and dried with any softener. The residue can (and did) leave a film on the glass.
I washed and dried the glass items with a soft paper towel and the case was dried with crumpled newspaper. I don't like using paper towels because they could scratch the glass and leave lint, but it's all I had for the time being.
The recipe for the glass cleaner is: 4 cups warm water 1/4 cup white vinegar 1 tablespoon corn starch
Mix all ingredients together. Wipe on solution or put it into a spray bottle.
It worked quite well. I made sure the mixture did not touch the pewter fittings on my glass steins. I'm not a chemist and don't know if there would be any chemical reaction.
