Although The Mettlach Book describes both 385s as Student Society, I agree with Walt that the one on the right probably is not a student society stein. This appears to be the imperial eagle with what could be a shield bearing the shield of the ruling dynasty. You can find civic coats of arms at this site, http://www.ngw.nl/index4.htm?int/dld/germany.htm. Again, it would help to have a name to do a search. Is there any engraving on the lid that would give you a clue as to a name or location? The crest could be used to provide a distinction among a common family name, the crown perhaps being a connection to royalty.
