Thanks guys.
Thanks Ron for the links. I never knew that TS was anything other than an invented name by D&B and used to describe their wares. From the Clay Art Center link it seems it is a relatively common slip in a variety of colors used for centuries. I'm not sure what distinguishes it from other slips except for the fineness of the grinding. It is my impression that the famous Creussen Apostle Steins have a similiar glaze to the D&B TS. If I am not mistaken these 17th c. Creussens are "near-stoneware" and have the heavy iron rich glaze to help seal them. It is further my understanding (after doing a quick read in Gaimsters German Stoneware) that D&B intentionally tried to mimic 16th & 17th century glazes at the turn of the 20th century. They did this on their historicist pieces as well as the Jugendstil. My thoughts are that the brown glaze on those old Creussen Apostles Steins are what D&B tried to mimic and the old glaze is also "Terra Sigillata."
I don't have a DB TS in my collection, but it seems from the Clay Art Center link that the finish could vary depending on how it was burnished before firing. That may explain some differences in the finish at least as best I can tell from photos.
I suppose I have created more questions. Any further discussion on this subject would be welcomed.
