SKS is Scheffer-Klute GmbH, a producer of heirloom quality metal sculpture. Mader's, a German restaurant in Milwaukee, offered SKS pewter. I have a brochure for the 1985 limited edition offering that shows a set of five pewter items - plate, spoon, schnapps, tumbler and stein. Each was shipped in a silk lined, velvet presentation case with a certificate of authenticity. Production was limited to one year, after which the mold was destroyed.
The bottom should be embossed with "SKS-Jahres-Edition 1985 "Malerei des Abendllandes"" and the "SKS Zinn 1985" hallmark. These items were created by Master Engraver Wilhelm Blome. The first edition was 1985, with six editions planned. These were to commemorate artists of different countries. "Mallerei Des Abendlandes" signifies the artists are considered painters of the "Evening" or "Western" school. There should be three panels, each a different painting. Panel one is German Master Carl Spitweg's most famous work, "The Farewell." Panel two is Hans Thoma's "Sister & Brother." Panel three depicts Moritz Von Schwind's "The Wedding." The stein was priced at $129.95 and was considered a bargain at that time since the American dollar had soared to a twelve-year high versus the German mark. Four years prior it would have been priced at $250, which was the 1985 price for the complete set in 1985. Sorry, the offer was only good for 30 days.
After writing all this, I hope it matches the stein you described. A picture would have been helpful in providing information on a stein question. Luckily, I happened to have a brochure on this particular offering.
