With the exception of the Native Americans, America was populated by people who moved here from other countries with whatever possessions they could carry. If they used a beer stein before coming to America, they would have either brought it with them or imported one as soon as they could afford such a luxury. If they were accustomed to drinking from a stein, it is logical to assume that they would try to maintain that level of comfort in their new country. It would also follow that in cities where a large number of transplanted Germans settled, shopkeepers would try to import or carry locally manufactured items that their customers would want to buy. And that would, of course, include beer steins.
