Without spending any money, you can access Gary Kirsner and Andre Ammelounx's auctions on line at Links provided through this website.
Alan Harrell and John Sipple as well as others have newer steins online for sale.
You can also look at eBay and try to find identical steins for sale but sometimes the descriptions are deceptive.
Gary Kirsner publishs several books he was written and updated which are helpful. They are focused on a variety of steins and individually cost $30 - $50 each.
If you have a variety of cheaper steins (i.e. worth $200 or less, Gary's books will be of little use to you.
The most complete listing is The Beer Stein Library of Frank Loevi (See Links). Articles are free to view, steins and values are $25 a year to access. First time "lookers" might be in free once, I am not sure. Go to the site, try and ask Frank or one of the others I have mentioned.
If you have 10 Avon steins, I would hate to see you waste any money to learn that that are pretty much worthless. If you have 2 or 3 top quality German Reservist's steins and want to learn about these steins, spend the $60- $70 for Ron Heiligenstein's book, it is well worth the money if you want to learn about them.
If you can submit photos of one or two of what you think are the "best" to Stein Talk, one of us will tell you have you have and something about the value. Then you can decide if you want to spend some money to know something about steins. It takes a lot of time and it costs money to learn. It can cost more to make a purchase or a sale if you do not know what you are doing. Your decision. Pay $25 to join SCI. PROSIT will teach you a lot and,based on where you live, there may be a chapter nearby. Most members are always helpful towards new members. Check the Chapter Listings section of this site and you can contact someone nearby who may be able to help you.
