Hello, I recently purchased a few occupational steins. Two of them have
sheets of paper in them indicating they were purchased from Ron Fox auctions a
long time ago (one from auction #25, lot #135, and the other from auction #24,
lot #284). I was wondering if anyone has some old stein auction catalogs from
Ron Fox auctions, and could look up the descriptions listed of these two steins?
They may not contain any info that I don't already know, but you never know.
These are both firemen occupational steins. The one stein has a mark of a 'G'
over a 'G' inscised on the bottom (I've been unable to find this mark in the
book of beer stein marks, nor in any beer stein book). I'm hoping the
manufacturer is listed in the old Ron Fox auction catalog. It appears to me to
have been made around 1920 or so because it has old fire trucks for side scenes,
and the style of body/lid. The other stein is a porcelain fireman occupational
stein, with the mark of CMODAU over an H and C with a tree in the middle, and
CZHECOSLOVAKIA under it (I found where this is the mark of Haas & Czjzek,
but no dates for when the mark was used). This has a closed pewter hinge, which
may date it to 1870-1880 or so, but if I could find the dates for this company,
it would narrow down when it was made. It has a nice hand painted scene on it,
and it engraved Franz Klaffehoch on the lid. Any help anyone can provide would
be much appreciated!
