There is a St. Augustine stein, form 6044, which is attributed to Marzi and Remy in Gary Kirsner's auction catalog (this is similar to Mettlach 2373 and can be seen in lot 279 in Gary Kirsner’s 09/05/01 auction, which can be accessed in the Links section). Andre Ammelounx does not identify the manufacturer of this stein in his catalogs. I have this stein, but it does not contain the Marzi and Remy mark. The ones I have seen also do not contain a mark. I am not sure whether the 6044 stein has been verified by a mark or a picture in a catalog. Gary could not recall how it was identified. Does anyone know how the manufacturer of this stein was identified as Marzi & Remy?
Here is another St. Augustine stein with an alligator handle, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=717649801. The form number is 6049, the 60 and 49 being impressed into the bottom with separate dies. There also is a form 6032 St. Augustine stein. These steins features the crest of the city of St. Augustine, Florida. However, 6032 and 6049 have features similar to 6044 and the numbers are close in the 6000 series sequence. Therefore, they are probably from the same manufacturer. Similar souvenir steins were also made for New Orleans (see lot 385 in Gary Kirsner’s 03/11/02 auction).
Here is another St. Augustine stein (form 1402), also with a black boy playing the banjo, the city coat-of-arms and the alligator handle (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewItem&item=717818685). The tail of alligator handle, however, is going in the opposite direction of that on form 6044.
If anybody has a Marzi & Remy catalog or one of the steins with a manufacturer's mark, please let us know so we can verify the manufacturer. Thanks.
