I brought a pewter stein (pitcher) back from Germany that had been in my wife's family since about 1960. I thought that someone might be able identify it. It is 13 in. high and 6 in. dia. at the base. It has a mark on the top of the handle that I was not able to get a clear picture of. The lid hinge is closed on both sides and this means to me that it is from before 1860. The front has an inscription with initials with the date 1776, even though the date on the bottom with the mark is 1756.
