That first step wasn't so bad was it. A couple of tips that will help you in using the internet to get information. If you are using a WebTV which only allows you to use capital letters, it is considered shouting when all capital letters are used. It doesn't bother me, but some people do get upset and you want them answering your question and not stewing over it. The second thing is that with the millions of steins out there, it is virtually impossible to give much information without an accompanying photo, except for Mettlach and certain other popular steins that are cataloged. You should also provide a photo of any initials or manufacturer's marks appearing on the stein.
The firm of Albert Jacob Thewalt is an old stein maker that still makes steins. The mark on their stein can help you pinpoint an era the stein was made. Go to the Library section and you will see an article on manufacturer's marks. Thewalt also has a web site, http://www.westerwald-keramik.de/handwerk_thewalt2.htm. While it tells you a little about their history, it does not show any of the old steins.
The steins depict a German song, Die Lindenwirtin [The Landlady (or hostess)of the Linden Inn]. The first verse of the song, "Keinen Tropfen im Becher mehr" translates to "Not one drop in the beaker left." The inn is located by a Linden Tree and that probably appears on your stein. Mettlach also produced a stein based on this song, 2833D. Click on Links and go to the Gary Kirsner Auction site. Check on his previous auctions and look at lot 93 of the November 30, 2002 auction to see the Mettlach version.
If you can post some pictures, someone might be able to give you more information. Also describe the condition of the stein.
