I am in desperate need of help in finding more information on a Mettlach Stein(mug) I received as a gift from my grandmother. She said it belonged to my great-grandfather but has no other information on it. It has the winged mercury Villeroy & Boch mark on the bottom including the word Mettlach. I know so far that it is not technically a stein because it doesn't have, nor ever had, a stein lid attached. It is a .5 litre vessel. It is cream on the inside and brown with raised cream patterns on the outside of some wheat and a picture of a couple. It also has a German verse written on it that I have almost completely deciphered. I have more information about the marks and such, but just need help in placing it as far as when and where it came from. It has the look of something that was maybe made as a souvenier, but I could be wrong as I have not seen anything else like it. I would ultimately like to have someone personally look at it, but I can send scans if someone can help me. Thank you in advance for any help that can be provided. eMail-popyseed25@aol.com
I originaly posted this message last year with the hope that I could get more information about it's origination. I did receive a response basically confirming the actual location in which it was manufactured. I know the time frame also. I am interested in more information on the item than when and where it was manufactured. I would also like help in decoding each number impressed on the underside. Anyone interested in continued conversation about this piece, contacting me would be greatly appreciated.
