This looks like the Mettlach logo of 1885- c.1930 to me. A different type logo was used on the 1980 plaques that I have. They all look etched or engraved to me rather than raised. The "Probe" and "1977" may look different because the were done by hand rather than a mold. As far as I know, the old plaques were also rounded at times. It looks like an old plaque to me, but I haven't personally inspected it.
