For insurance value only, I would say $50.00 would be about right. Remember, insurance value is much higher than market value.
Your stein is a contemporary stein aimed at the souvenier/tourist trade. It has very modest value. I would not try to have it repaired as the repair might cost more than the stein is worth. It's value is in the sentiment from your folks.
In recent years, may stein manufacturers have gone to some so-called "Limited Editions" hoping to increase their value. However, when you have a series of 5,000 or so, there are a lot of them out there.
I would check ebay. These come up from time to time.
