The scene you describe sounds more like an occupational stein with a Third Reich lid. The lid could be a replacement. This was a Storm Trooper. Munchaurach could be either a name or location, but I did not get any hits searching the German yahoo site. The spelling could be wrong. If you can post photos, you might get more help. As to the significance of the gift, if your friends are from Germany they can't sell items with the Nazi symbol.
