Many of the steins came from manufacturers located in Höhr and Grenzhausen, which merged in 1936 to form Höhr-Grenzhausen. Since this was the land of the jug makers, many of the families intermarried. Johann Wilhelm Remy (the family came from France) founded J. W. Remy in 1864. It ceased operations in 1966. Anton Marzi and Simon Peter Remy (perhaps his mother was a Gerz) founded Marzi & Remy in 1879. The firm ceased operations sometime after their 100th anniversary in 1979. The two Remys were no doubt related, but I am not sure of the relationship.
