I have just found the meaning of some of the symbols on one f my beer steins, thanks to an article in The Beer Stein Journal by Mike Wald. It is a .5 L stein #457 showing a marching infantry lead by a portly officer, a drummer and 5 others. The uniforms seem to be circa 1850-70. The legend makes reference to marching slowly so the man from Krohwinkler may keep up. The bottom is recessed as if it once held a music box. I have had the stein since 1966, I got it from my grandmother's sister. Their family name was Zander, from the Lansing, Michigan area. Any further info or speculations are appreciated. Jim.
