Jerry,
I think you are on to something. Kovels' New Dictionary of Marks shows the English Reistery Marks on page 238. It is a diamond with a portion of a circle on top. This is where the Roman Numerals I to IV identify the material, with IV being ceramic. The mark in Manusov's book is hand drawn and is an irregular shaped diamond. While it lacks the detail shown in Kovel, each side of the diamond should have letters or numbers and the center should be "Rd" rather than just "R," it could be that they didn't recognize the other markings when they described the mark in Manusov's book. Unfortunately, Gene does not have records indicating whose stein or creamer it was. We will see what Jim DeMars thinks when he examines his stein against the one in Manusov's book.
