The Westerwald is an area of Germany known for its steins. It is sometimes referred to as Kannenbäckerland, or land of the jug maker. See the article on Kannenbäckerland in the Library section.
Thewalt (its one word, not The Walt which you sometimes see on eBay), is one of the stein makers located in the Westerwald area. You are probably confused because you are looking at a Westerwald web site that lists manufacturers, including Thewalt (see http://www.westerwald-keramik.de/handwerk_thewalt2.htm). To confuse matters more, there is also a company called WW-Team or Westerwald Team that is a recent entry into the stein maker industry.
