One addition to John's comments: The Library section of this website (where you found the article by John) also has an article explaining the The Trumpeter of Säckingen. See the article titled, "The Trumpeter of Säckingen - A Love Story" further down in the same section as John's article. Knowing the lore behind the scene on your stein will add a lot to your knowledge and appreciation of the stein itself.
