Looking for a manufacturer's mark will do you no good. Saeltzer only manufactured earthenware imitations of Cruessen steins and ancient Greek vases and urns. The stoneware steins we know as Saeltzer were manufactured by at least six factories, Fritz Thenn, Freising, Marzi-Remy, Merkelbach & Wick, Thewalt, Duemler & Breiden and others. Besides and instead of, the "AS" monogram there could be several different painted initials and/or decor numbers, depending on the actual artist, or scene. "L" is a commonly seen artist's initial.
